LO: Understanding complementary colours

Today's learning objective was for art students to understand and practice the principle of complementary colours.

Complementary colours are pairs of colours which are directly opposite each other on the colour wheel. When these pairs of colours are placed next to each other, they create the strongest contrast and work extremely well together.

All students were given a Colour Theory worksheet, which they could refer to when creating their pieces of art. They were asked to stick it in their sketch pad and to only focus on the bottom box this lesson.

I wanted to learn a little bit more about each student... what are their interests? Hobbies? Favourite animal? Food? Their favourite subject at school?

Everyone was given a piece of white A4 card that had been divided into 6 sections.

In each section children were asked to do a little drawing of something, anything that relates to them and their interests.

When adding colour there was only one rule... Each box must only contain two complementary colours.

Have a look at the results!
